Ellmers Votes to Provide Economic Certainty

Statement

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) issued the following release after passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, which is legislation to fund the government for 1-year. Included in this legislation is the extension of numerous tax provisions that, without Congressional renewal, would have expired.

"Today's funding bill provides some certainty while also lessening tax burdens on North Carolina small businesses, farmers and families. This bill makes several tax provisions permanent, including the Research & Development credit, which is critical to many constituents employed by businesses and manufacturers within the RTP. The R&D tax credit encourages economic growth and will lead to increased competition in the private sector."

"There are several big healthcare wins within this legislation as well, including a delay of three harmful Obamacare taxes that directly hit the pockets of Second District constituents and business owners. The repeal of these taxes lays the groundwork for a full repeal of this failed healthcare law in 2016."

"I'm also proud to have two components within this bill that mirror legislation I introduced earlier in the year. One provision will allow for disposable medical devices to be covered under Medicare, making these healthcare technologies more accessible to senior citizens receiving in-home care. Another provision is based on legislation I introduced to ensure that reimbursement policies for mammograms do not change based on conflicting breast cancer screening recommendations from several groups."

"Additionally, this legislation allots 607 billion dollars for military spending, providing assurance for our top military leaders and allowing us to maintain required levels of readiness to destroy ISIS and other terrorist extremist groups."
