Gov. Scott: Orlando Leads the State in Job Creation

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Orlando area added 53,900 new private-sector jobs over the year in January, the highest number of new jobs among all Florida metro areas. In addition, the Orlando area's unemployment rate declined by 1.0 percent over the year to 4.7 percent in January. Florida has added 1,060,800 private sector jobs since 2010. Governor Scott made the announcement today during his "Million, Billion Jobs Victory Tour" at Orion Technology Services in Orlando.

Governor Scott said, "Orlando is leading the state in job creation with more than 53,000 new jobs created for families over the year. More than one million jobs have been created in Florida in only five years, and we have cut more than $1 billion in taxes over the past two years. It is exciting to celebrate these milestones with families across the state on the "Million, Billion Jobs Victory Tour' today, and we will keep working to cut taxes for families and businesses so Florida can become first for jobs."

In January, the industries with the highest job gains over the year in the Orlando area were professional and business services with 15,900 new jobs; leisure and hospitality with 10,000 new jobs; and trade, transportation, and utilities with 8,600 new jobs. The area continues to have the second-highest job demand in Florida in January with 33,835 openings, including 9,766 science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) openings.

Florida created 36,000 private-sector jobs in January, and a total of 1,060,800 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for January was 5.0 percent. In January, more than 28,843 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Central Florida and the state's other 24 regional workforce boards.
