Secretary Kerry Admits Iran Deal Funds Terror

Statement

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement today following Secretary of State John Kerry's admission in Davos, Switzerland that money released to the Iranian regime through the Administration's deal with Iran will be used to fund terrorism:

"The Iranian regime is the world's leading state sponsor of terror, and many of us have warned from the beginning that money released to the regime would be used to fund terrorism. Secretary Kerry has now admitted as much.

"The world should be under no illusions about the character of the regime in Tehran. Groups funded by Iran have killed innocents in Syria. They have killed Israelis. They have killed Americans. Now, Iran has access to massive new sources of revenue with which to fund those groups.

"The Administration seems convinced that their endless concessions to Iran will provoke a change in behavior. That has proven to be laughably false. In just the few months since their deal was announced, Iran has conducted multiple illegal ballistic missile tests. They have continued to ship resources and weapons to Bashar al-Assad. And they have violated U.N. travel restrictions by sending abroad Qassem Soleimani, a known terrorist and Iranian General who is responsible for supplying IEDs to Iraqi insurgents to kill Americans.

"Iran has funded terror. Iran will continue to fund terror. Now, however, they have billions more to do it with. It is my hope that a future White House reverses this dangerous course and puts the Iranian regime under the economic and political pressure necessary to truly change their behavior."
