U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), chairman of the Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee, chaired the Subcommittee's first fiscal year 2017 budget hearing on Tuesday. U.S. Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine and Senate Sergeant at Arms Frank Larkin spoke as witnesses at the hearing, which focused on reviewing the two agencies' fiscal year 2017 budget requests.
"As chairman of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee, determining our nation's spending priorities is a responsibility I take very seriously. Once again this year we are faced with the difficult task of meeting the funding needs of agencies like the Capitol Police and Sergeant at Arms in a tight budget environment. I appreciate the hard work they do to keep the Capitol complex safe and accessible to the public, so that we all have a chance to witness democracy in action. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to ensure taxpayer dollars are used in a fiscally responsible way, while also ensuring adequate funding for these critical government functions," said Senator Capito.
