National School Choice Week, 2016

Date: Feb. 2, 2016
Location: Washington D.C.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) issued the following statement in recognition of National School Choice Week:

"It's my privilege to join families in Wisconsin and all across America to celebrate National School Choice Week. As parents, we know there's nothing more important for our children's future than their education. One of our national treasures is a great diversity of schools: public schools, private schools, charter schools, magnet schools, online universities, and homeschooling.

"Millions of students benefit from these choices, but we need to make sure even more families have these opportunities. The Every Student Succeeds Act, which recently became law, supports the expansion and replication of high-quality charter schools. The House of Representatives has also voted to renew the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program, which has helped thousands of students in our nation's capital city get a better education.

"National School Choice Week is a great idea, and it's no surprise that it keeps growing every year. Let's keep up the momentum for school choice and renew our commitment to the idea that, in America, your zip code doesn't have to determine your destiny."
