Ros-Lehtinen Supports Continued Healthcare Reforms and Pro-Life Policies

Statement

This afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives joined with the U.S. Senate to ensure that American families, workers, and taxpayers are shielded from the most burdensome provisions of Obamacare, and that taxpayer dollars that support women's healthcare go to providers that respect and protect innocent human life.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act will save taxpayers over a half trillion dollars over the next decade. The bill will now be sent to President Obama's desk for his consideration.

"Americans are facing enormous challenges because of a healthcare system that - although still capable of providing the best care in the world - has become a bureaucratic nightmare for anyone to navigate. Whether it's the increasing costs of prescription drugs or the rising mental health crisis all of our communities face, on too many healthcare issues, the federal government has created more problems than it has solved by continuing to rely on budget-busting "one-size fits all' approaches that simply don't work in a country as large and diverse as ours.

Obamacare has proven to be the wrong prescription for what ails the American healthcare system. In fact, millions of families and hardworking taxpayers throughout our nation are now experiencing the side effects- unaffordable premiums and deductibles, vastly reduced insurance options and provider networks, and in some circumstances, the violation of personal conscience.

Increasing the affordability of healthcare through common sense reforms is the best way to make sure more Americans will have access to quality healthcare. I remain committed to promoting reforms that incentivize our healthcare system to be more patient-centered, provide more options and flexibility for individuals, and put patients and consumers, rather than insurance companies and federal bureaucrats, in charge of their own healthcare decisions.

Ultimately, our healthcare system is about the preservation of life, and we must ensure that innocent life is protected at every age and stage."
