Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) today voted in favor of a measure he cosponsored that would redirect funding currently received by Planned Parenthood to other health clinics while federal officials investigate whether Planned Parenthood has broken federal laws. HR 3143, which redirects these funds for one year, was passed on a 241-187 vote and will now be considered in the Senate.
"Today the House passed a measure I cosponsored to redirect funds currently provided to Planned Parenthood to other women's health providers," said LaMalfa. "There are 1694 federally qualified health clinics in California where women can receive quality care, compared to just 114 Planned Parenthood clinics, so this bill will increase access to vital health services."
"Redirecting these funds while Planned Parenthood is under investigation for breaking federal laws is simply the prudent step to take, and no tax dollars should ever be used to support illegal activity."
