Heitkamp Announces Significant Federal Funding for Storm Restoration Costs

Press Release

Date: Oct. 28, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs, announced more than $1.4 million in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to Mor-Gran-Sou Electric Cooperative to reimburse it for costs incurred to repair damages from the 2010 winter storm.

"It has been over five years and FEMA has finally made good on its promise to support our local power cooperative, as they worked to restore power for the areas hit the hardest," said Heitkamp. "We must know that when disasters hit, the federal government will be a partner in helping our local communities recover and not stand in the way with unnecessary red tape. I'm glad to see this funding come through, but we must make sure resources are available on a timely basis for our communities to come back stronger and safer than they were before a disaster hits."
