Gov. Sanford Issues Statement on Employment Numbers
GOVERNOR SAYS DATE HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR SMALL BUSINESS FOCUS
Columbia, S.C. - January 28, 2003 - Governor Mark Sanford today issued the following statement regarding today's employment release from the Employment Security Commission. South Carolina's unemployment rate dipped to 6.0% in December from 6.3% in November. The national unemployment rate remained steady at 6.0%.
"Getting these numbers down is critical to our economic development efforts," Gov. Sanford said. "We're pleased to see a dip but if we really want to make a dent in unemployment we've got to focus on small business growth and development here in South Carolina. I'm pleased with the direction Bob Faith is taking over at Commerce on that front and look forward to working with him to make sure we're building a better business climate in our state."
