Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) voted in support of H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act.

Roe released the following statement on the bills:

"As an OBGYN who delivered close to 5,000 babies, I was sickened and disturbed by the release of several videos showing Planned Parenthood executives casually discussing the dismemberment of babies to sell their body parts. As someone who spent many hours in the delivery room, I cannot begin to imagine not doing everything in my power to save the life of a newborn child.

"Defunding Planned Parenthood isn't about whether you are pro-life or pro-choice - though I'm proud to say I will always be a defender of the right to life. This is about the gruesome practices of an organization that receives a little over $500 million in government funding each year and the allegations that some babies who survive abortions are denied emergency medical care. I spent my life caring for patients and believe wholeheartedly in those sacred words that state all humans are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, the very first of these being life, which is why I am proud to support these important bills."

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would provide legal protections to abortion survivors. The Defund Planned Parenthood Act would immediately ban all federal funding of Planned Parenthood for one year while Congress investigates the videos released this summer showing Planned Parenthood executives discussing the dismemberment of aborted babies to sell their body parts.
