Congressman Thompson Supports Stem Cell Technology Research Legislation And Expanded Federal Funding For Stem Cell Research
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) issued the following statement on stem cell technology research legislation, H.R. 2520 and H.R. 810, which expand federal funding of stem cell research, establish federal programs to collect and store stem cells, and expand bone marrow research.
Congressman Thompson stated:
"The development of stem cell technology holds great promise for cures of terrible diseases like diabetes, cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, spinal cord injuries and a host of others. We must unlock the door on this potentially life-saving research."
H.R. 2520 was passed by the House by a vote of 431-1, and H.R. 810 passed by the House by a vote of 238-194.
