Renacci: Future Generations Deserve Better

Statement

Today, U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement after voting against legislation that would place the burden of paying for today's roads and bridges onto our future generations.

"I cannot support a highway funding bill that is paid for using budget gimmicks, and inevitably places the burden for payment on our children and grandchildren. This bill does not solve the funding issue long-term, but passes the problem back onto Congress in 2020," Renacci said.

The Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act increases spending on highway and transit programs by using $70 billion of budget gimmicks over 10 years to pay for five years of spending. You cannot find 70 billion dollars of cash in a fund that is 18 trillion dollars in deficit. The math just doesn't add up. We need a long-term sustainable funding solution that is fully paid for, not Congressional accounting gimmicks.
