ALEXANDER ANNOUNCES APPROPRIATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

CONGRESSMAN NAMED TO TWO KEY SUBCOMMITTEES

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today announced his two subcommittee assignments under the Appropriations Committee.

Alexander, who was named to the powerful Appropriations Committee last month, will serve on the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee as well as the Science, Commerce, Justice and State Subcommittee.

"I fought hard to get on these two subcommittees because they directly impact the 5th Congressional District," Alexander said.

"The 5th Congressional District is one of the poorest districts in the nation. By serving on these two subcommittees, I believe I'm in the best position possible to serve my district and Louisiana."

Earlier this week, the House Appropriations Committee consolidated its 13 subcommittees into 10.

Under the Agriculture Subcommittee are the following agencies: Department of Agriculture (except Forest Service); Farm Credit Administration; Farm Credit System Financial Assistance Corporation and the Food and Drug Administration.

Under the Science, State, Justice and Commerce Subcommittee are the following agencies: Department of Commerce; Department of Justice; Department of State; Federal Communications Commission; Federal Trade Commission; Legal Services Corporation; U.S. Trade Representative; Securities and Exchange Commission and the Small Business Administration; National Aeronautics and Space Administration; National Science Foundation and the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

"I realize that there will be many challenges facing the 109th Congress, but I know that I'm in a position to better represent the needs of the 5th District and Louisiana on Capitol Hill," Alexander added.
