Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Hardest Hit Funds for Michigan Blight Removal

Statement

Date: Oct. 28, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after it was reported that Flint and Detroit will get millions in additional federal dollars to demolish vacant and abandoned buildings:

"More federal money for blight removal is great news for Michigan cities like Flint and Detroit. Removing our neighborhoods of blight and abandonment is a proven way to unlock greater opportunity for all homeowners.

"One of my top priorities since I was elected has been to strengthen Michigan's communities so that they can compete in the new economy. The first bill I introduced helped play a role in successfully freeing up federal money for cities like Flint, Saginaw and Detroit so that they could demolish thousands of vacant structures. In Congress, I will continue to advocate for additional federal resources that help to revitalize and invest in Michigan."
