Congressman Serrano Participates in CHCI 2015 Public Policy Conference; Inducted to the Reyes of Comedy Hall of Fame

Throughout this past week, Congressman Serrano participated in various Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) 2015 Public Policy Conference and Gala events. Held every year during Hispanic Heritage Month, the conference and gala is the largest gathering of Latino leaders in the nation and includes Plenary Sessions, Summit Series, speeches from high profile leaders, and other events on a wide range of topics relevant to the Hispanic community.

This year, Congressman Serrano was inducted to the Reyes of Comedy Hall of Fame during the 15th Annual Reyes of Comedy for his longtime friendship and support of the program. For years, Congressman Serrano served as emcee of this fun star-studded entertainment event, whose primary goal is to promote a positive image of Latinos and to raise funds for CHCI's youth educational and leadership programs.

Congressman Serrano Joins AG Schneiderman to Announce Lawsuit Against NY Businesses Selling Synthetic Marijuana

On Monday October 5 Congressman Serrano joined Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and other elected officials to announce a lawsuit against Erie County-based Surrealist Sensations and Rockland County-based Liquid Shop a/k/a Liquid Glass Shop for selling synthetic marijuana and other "designer" drugs. These substances have psychoactive effects similar to "street drugs," but are usually packaged to appear harmless. The increase in their use is creating a public health crisis in New York and the rest of the country that must be addressed.

"Designer drugs like synthetic marijuana are a growing threat to public safety in New York City," said Congressman Serrano (D-NY). "I commend the Attorney General for taking this important step to bring down those who are sending this poison into our communities."
