Whitfield Statement on President Obama's Violation of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act

Statement

Issues: Foreign Affairs

U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-01), voted today in support of H. Res. 411 -- Finding that the President has not complied with section 2 of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015. Whitfield issued the following statement upon passage of the resolution.

"Less than four months ago, Congress passed the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (INARA), and President Obama signed it into law. The President failed to provide Congress all the necessary materials related to his deal on Iran's nuclear program, including the text of the side deals negotiated by the International Atomic Energy Agency, and as a result, has violated the law and ceded his ability to implement his deal.

"By signing INARA into law, President Obama agreed to comply with its terms and conditions. Unfortunately, it is very clear that he has no regard for the laws passed by Congress, and views them simply as suggestions to consider when pursuing his personal policy agenda. The President is not above the law and the consequences of his bad deal with Iran are too grave for inaction. The House will continue to use every tool at its disposal to stop this deal."
