Walker Issues Statement On Resignation of Speaker John Boehner

Statement

Date: Sept. 25, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

John Boehner, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, announced his resignation today effective October 30, 2015. Speaker Boehner will be resigning his Speakership and seat in Congress as the elected Representative of Ohio's Eight District.

In response, Congressman Mark Walker released the following statement:

"Today, I believe Speaker Boehner made the right decision for our nation and for our party. I thank him for his service, dedication, selflessness and clear love of country. In the last four years, since Republicans took the House, Speaker Boehner has been on the front lines fighting a President who wants to "fundamentally change' our country.

"During last year's campaign, I promised to hold House leadership accountable and to stand up whenever my conservative principles or the best interests of the Sixth District demanded. In my first eight months, I have repeatedly done that while the frustration among my conservative colleagues and me was reaching a boiling point. The Speaker obviously felt the growing discontentment and has removed himself as an impediment.

"But we must look forward, as the issues facing our country are too great to focus on the past. We need to elect a Republican leadership team that is ready to compete with President Obama's liberal agenda AND with a Senate that continually refuses to act on the strong, conservative legislation passed by the House -- well over two hundred bills at this point."
