Congressman Farenthold's Statement on Speaker Boehner's Resignation

Statement

Date: Sept. 25, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Blake Farenthold (R-TX-27) released the following statement today after the announcement by Speaker John Boehner that he will be resigning from Congress and the leadership position in October.

"Today we have been given an opportunity to reunite the GOP," Congressman Farenthold said. "I respect Speaker Boehner's decision to protect the institution and to put the needs of our country before his own. I wish him and his family the best going forward. While I didn't always agree with him on the issues, I agree that we need to stay focused on America and stay focused on conservative goals. There is a lot of work to be done over the course of the next month. There are pivotal points in our history as a nation where the American people are under grave assault by an overbearing government and threats abroad; our country has been given the opportunity to re-engage with our Constitution and re-discover the principles that made this country great. It is my hope that my colleagues in Congress can unite behind a genuine and consistent conservative as the next Speaker of the House, and reaffirm for all Americans that our nation is governed of, by, and for the People. My prayers are with Speaker Boehner for his future, my colleagues to make a wise choice, and the country and her people in this transformational moment."
