Harper Comments on Boehner

Statement

U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) issued the following statement after learning that House Speaker John A. Boehner will retire:

"This morning at our weekly Republican conference meeting, Speaker John Boehner announced that he will retire at the end of October 2015. He has been a great leader, always putting others before himself."

Harper added: "Speaker Boehner has led the House with honor and integrity, and has always fought for a functional, smaller, less burdensome government. He is the strongest pro-life Speaker in our nation's history and throughout his career, one of the most conservative members of the House. I appreciate the Speaker's service and am grateful for the knowledge I gained from him."
