Governor Napolitano Announces 2005 Homeland Security Allocations

GOVERNOR NAPOLITANO ANNOUNCES 2005
HOMELAND SECURITY ALLOCATIONS

Awarded to five regions statewide

PHOENIX - Gov. Janet Napolitano today announced more than $41 million in funding will be
distributed statewide, as part of Arizona's 2005 Homeland Security allocation. The funding is Arizona's share of a $2.5 billion federal pie, and is distributed by the state to the five different regions and state agencies for anti-terrorism training, equipment and planning. "Response to emergencies, regardless whether it is a local fire, auto accident or large scale emergency, requires that our first responders be properly equipped," said Napolitano. "These homeland security dollars will enable them to purchase the gear they need and continue to receive updated training to be ready for anything."Each region receives a dollar amount for projects and/or equipment upon risk, threat and assets in their area. The funding may be used to purchase equipment and train personnel to deal with weapons of mass destruction (WMD) or other terrorist event. The following dollar amounts were awarded to the five regions:

North Region - $3,177,070
· (Counties: Coconino, Navajo, Apache)
West Region - $2,644,701
· (County: Mohave, Yavapai, La Paz)
Central Region - $16,377,644
· (County: Maricopa)
South Region - $6,550,115
· (Border Counties: Yuma, Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise)
East Region - $1,765,293
· (Counties: Pinal, Gila, Graham, Greenlee)

The remaining funds, approximately $10 (m) million, are distributed among state agencies for antiterrorism and WMD training.
