Remembering 9/11, Remaining Ever Vigilant

Statement

Date: Sept. 11, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement in remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001:

"Fourteen years ago, our terrorist enemies attacked our freedom and our American way of life. They took thousands of innocent lives, and caused unspeakable pain to those who lost loved ones, friends and neighbors. The terrorists hoped to divide Americans and shake our commitment to the liberty each person is granted by God, but instead we emerged more united and determined than ever before.

"On this fourteenth anniversary of those attacks, when so many of us feel the pain and anger of that day just as vividly, we pause to remember the Americans who lost their lives, and to thank our first responders and military personnel, as well as their families, for the sacrifices they make to protect us. We also recommit ourselves to constant vigilance in the face of serious threats against our citizens and our homeland, so Americans never again suffer attacks like those of September 11, 2001."
