Issue Position Promoting A More Humane Society

Issue Position

Congressman Doggett is a Member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, Stands Firm for the Belief Cruelty has No Place in Our Society

As a member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, I understand that how we treat animals is part of our humanity; cruelty has no place in our society. My voting record was rated 100% by the Humane Society in a recently released Humane Scorecard -- the only such rating in the Central Texas delegation.

I continue to support legislation to protect animals against abuse, including the Puppy Uniform Protection Statute (PUPS) Act, the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act and the Humane Cosmetics Act. I am also a sponsor of the Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act, which would outlaw horse slaughter operations in the U.S., end the current export of American horses for slaughter abroad, and protect the public from consuming toxic horse meat.
