The 19th Congressional District is home to a variety of colleges and universities -- public and private four-year institutions, quality community colleges, and trade and technical schools. I believe in education as the cornerstone of the American dream. I believe we should support the pursuit of higher education as a way to develop Americans' skills and boost our economy.

The Constitution grants states the powers not specifically given to the federal government. This includes education. I believe we need to give local districts and state governments greater flexibility and control over how they run their schools. Regulations from the federal government automatically assume that every state is the same, every school district is the same, every classroom is the same, and every student is the same. That just isn't the case. It's important for us to allow local and state experts to develop their own standards that recognize the things that make each classroom and each student unique.

As your representative in the federal government, I believe we must get Washington out of the way and leave it to the states to decide their curriculum, school vouchers, and school choice policies.
