Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) released the following statement following Federal Maritime Commission Chairman Mario Cordero's comments about a third-party audit of PierPass:

"I spearheaded the idea of moving cargo during off-peak hours. Pier pass was the result of that, and it has helped bring about a shift so that now more than half of all cargo at the Port of Los Angeles is moved at off-peak hours, removing countless trucks from commuter traffic and helping the ports operate more efficiently. However, I agree the time has come to reevaluate this organization going forward. Now that shippers see the value in moving goods at off-peak hours, they might no longer need an incentive to do so. In addition, knowing more about the $144 million that PierPass collected in revenue we help make decisions and adjustments that could make our ports even more attractive to shippers and more responsive to our communities. This is why I fully support Chairman Cordero's proposal for a third-party audit of the PierPass organization. PierPass played a crucial role in changing the way Los Angeles moves goods, but the time has come to see where PierPass can be improved or modernized for the benefit of our ports in LA and Long Beach."
