Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees, released the following statement today announcing that the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a $13.8 million grant to the City of Houston to extend runways at George Bush Intercontinental Airport:

"The $13.8 million grant will help reduce delays for our bustling airport. George Bush Intercontinental airport is on the rise and is currently the eleventh busiest airport in the United States. It is vitally important that our airport stays efficient. "

"An active, proficient, and safe George Bush Intercontinental Airport is critical to the economic growth and well-being of Houston, the surrounding metropolitan region, and our global society. That is why I have longed championed and advocated for programs that provide the necessary funding to keep our airports secure, protected, convenient, modern, and the best in the world."

"I congratulate the City of Houston on being selected to receive this significant grant from the Federal Aviation Administration and am proud to have strongly supported the legislation that made this grant possible."
