U.S. Rep. McSally Statement on Decision to Delay Removal of Salt River Horses

Statement

Date: Aug. 6, 2015
Location: Tucson, AZ

U.S. Representative Martha McSally today released the following statement in response to the U.S. Forest Service's decision to delay removal of the Salt River horses living in the Tonto National Forest.

"I am very glad to learn the U.S. Forest Service has decided to delay its announced plans to remove the horses along the Salt River, which could result in their possible butchering. Wild horses have been a part of Arizona's history for hundreds of years. The immense public outcry against this move merits a full dialogue about what the best actions are to ensure the humane treatment of the horses, the preservation of the habitat, and the safety of the public. I'm hopeful that the Forest Service will conclude that removal of the horses to be slaughtered does not fulfill any of these interests and I will continue to engage with them on this matter."
