Crawford Calls for McCarthy Resignation

Statement

Date: Aug. 17, 2015
Location: Memphis, TN
Issues: Environment

Earlier this morning, Congressman Rick Crawford (AR-1) called for the resignation of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Gina McCarthy in light of the mismanagement leading to and following the Animas river disaster.

Congressman Crawford said the following after the call for resignation:

"We've seen this pattern throughout recent history, when already incredibly large federal agencies seek to increase their authority, only to prove later through scandals, mismanagement, or disasters that the agency isn't even capable of adequately managing their current responsibilities. Ever since McCarthy assumed office in 2013, the EPA has sought to increase consistently their purview and authority, but the recent Animas river disaster demonstrates that the Agency's current agenda is already too much for them to control. America desperately needs agency heads who are capable of streamlining these large, bureaucratic agencies and returning focus to their core missions, but time after time McCarthy has demonstrated her only interest is increasing the power of her own agency instead of focusing on efficiency and the EPA's original purpose."
