Hoeven Announces More than $1.6 Million for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in North Dakota

Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Appropriations committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded the North Dakota State Department of Human Services a $1,648,188 grant. The grant will fund mental health and substance abuse services cooperative agreements.

"We are committed to the health of North Dakotans," Hoeven said. "Individuals battling substance abuse need support, and this grant will help the North Dakota Department of Human Services provide that support. The grant will also help provide assistance to individuals and families affected by mental illness or emotional disorders."

The grant was made available through the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. The National Alliance on Mental Illness estimated in 2010 that in North Dakota, close to 24,000 adults and about 6,000 children were living with serious mental health conditions.
