Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement on the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) safety recommendations to Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) on the installation of inward- and outward-facing cameras on trains

"These recommendations mirror what we've heard from the NTSB for years, and it is imperative that the FRA and the rail industry adhere to these critical safety recommendations without any further delay. Inward- and outward-facing cameras are a proven way to secure our trains and bolster the safety of train operators and passengers. The need for cameras on passenger trains is apparent and widely known -- two weeks ago, the Senate Commerce Committee approved legislation containing a mandate I've long sought that calls for cameras on passenger trains and prevents camera images from being misused for retaliation against employees. This is a positive step as we continue working to improve the safety of our nation's railroads."
