Vitter Announces Bipartisan-Supported TSCA Reform Passes Through EPW Committee

Press Release

Date: April 28, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) today announced that the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act passed through the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee. The vote was 15 yeas to 5 nays, with all 11 Republicans and 4 Democrats voting in favor of the legislation. The Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act will enact common-sense reforms that are necessary to update the United States' ineffective, outdated chemical regulatory program.

"After months of tireless negotiations, I am proud to announce that the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act has passed through the EPW Committee with strong, bipartisan support," said Vitter. "The Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act is an honest, balanced approach built on compromise, and the important thing to remember is that updating the outdated, inefficient TSCA will better protect the safety of our families and also advance innovation in our economy. Sen. Udall deserves a lot of credit and was instrumental in helping keep the negotiations ongoing and productive."

Vitter and Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.) introduced the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act on March 10, 2015, with 16 Democrat and Republican original cosponsors. In today's EPW business meeting, Vitter introduced a manager's amendment that addressed many of the concerns presented by stakeholders since the bill's introduction in March. Vitter's manager's amendment was favorably reported to the Senate Floor.
