Boozman Invites Arkansans to Preserve the Stories of Veterans

U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) encourages Arkansans to collect the experiences and stories of Natural State veterans as part of the Veterans History Project, an initiative that aims to preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. Boozman wants to make sure the collection includes the experiences of Arkansas veterans.

"Arkansans have a long and proud history of supporting our nation's military. Sharing the stories of their experiences while serving in our nation's uniform is important to understanding our history and will help future generations learn about the people who defend our freedoms. I encourage Arkansans to get involved with collecting and sharing the stories of these heroes," Boozman said.

The Veterans History Project (VHP) is an effort by the Library of Congress to collect and preserve the oral histories from our nation's war veterans. Thousands of submissions have been archived from veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

These histories are compiled through audio or video-recorded interviews, in addition to gathering original correspondence, photographs, and diaries.

Boozman will host two workshops, led by Ms. Jo Blatti, director for First Person Plural: An Oral History of Arkansas Women, for Arkansans who are interested in capturing the history of our brave men and women. Participants will learn more about the program and receive training on how to conduct interviews with our veterans and submit those interviews to the Library of Congress.
