Official Title of Legislation: SB 899: An Act Implementing the Guarantee of Equal Protection Under the Constitution of the State for Same Sex Couples
Highlights: -Exempts members of the clergy from joining persons in marriage if it violates their right to free exercise of religion (Sec. 7).
-Grants people in civil unions the same benefits, protection, and responsibilities as married people under the law (Sec. 10).
-Allows civil unions that have not been dissolved or annulled before October 1, 2010 to be recognized as legal marriages (Sec. 12).
