Project Vote Smart's Synopsis: Vote to override a veto of a bill that legalizes same-sex marriage.
NOTE: A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY OF THOSE PRESENT AND VOTING IS REQUIRED TO OVERRIDE A GOVERNOR'S VETO.
Official Title of Legislation: S 115: An act relating to civil marriage.
Highlights: -Changes definition of marriage to a legally recognized union between two people (Sec. 5).
-Does not require a member of the clergy to perform any marriage, and refusal to perform a marriage is not cause for any civil claim or cause of action (Sec. 9).
-Does not affect the ability of a society to determine its own membership (Sec. 10).
-Does not require a religious organization to provide services for the solemnization of a marriage (Sec. 11).
