Registration Deadline: A voter registration application must be submitted with an application submission date of no later than 29 days before the next election. Some military voters and their family members can register until noon on election day.
Party Affiliation: No political party affiliation required to vote in primary elections, however a voter must declare which party primary they wish to vote for in each separate primary.
VOTER REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS
Age: At least 18 years of age on or before election day
Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen
Residency: Must be a resident of Indiana and reside in the precinct for at least 30 days before the election.
Mental Competency: Mental competency is not a requirement to register to vote in Indiana.
Felony Convictions: Must not currently be imprisoned after being convicted of a crime.
In order to register to vote online you must possess:
-A current and valid driver's license; or
-Indiana state identification card
If you are sending in your application by mail and registering for the first time, you must provide a copy of one of the following identification documentation:
-Current and valid photo ID;
-Current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or government document showing the name and address of the voter.

Complete and return the voter registration form 29 days prior to the next election to any of the following:
- Indiana Election Division office
- local county voter registration office
- Bureau of Motor Vehicles License Branch
- National Voter Registration Act full service agency (i.e. Workforce Development offices, Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) offices).
- local public libraries routinely have voter registration applications available.
By mail/ in writing: Mail the completed form to your county voter registration office.
By fax: Contact your local county voter registration office for faxing options.

ABSENTEE BALLOT QUALIFICATIONS
Who can vote absentee:
In order to vote absentee-by-mail, one of the following must apply:
- You have a specific, reasonable expectation that you will be absent from the county on Election Day during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open (6 am until 6 pm).
- You have a disability.
- You are at least 65 years of age.
- You will have official election duties outside of your voting precinct.
- You are scheduled to work at your regular place of employment during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open.
- You will be confined due to illness or injury or you will be caring for an individual confined due to illness or injury during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open.
- You are prevented from voting because of a religious discipline or religious holiday during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open.
- You are a participant in the state's address confidentiality program.
- You are a member of the military or a public safety officer.
In order to vote absentee-by-traveling board, one of the following must apply:
- The voter expects to be confined, due to illness or injury, or the voter expects to be caring for a confined person at a private residence on Election Day.
- The voter is a voter with disabilities and believes their polling place is not accessible to them.

OBTAINING AN ABSENTEE BALLOT

Military and overseas voting: As a military or overseas voter, you may submit an absentee ballot application by mail, fax, or in person. Emergency Voting: Certain military members and their families may register after 10 days before an election. Contact your local election office for potential exemptions.
SUBMITTING AN ABSENTEE BALLOT
Location and time: All registered voters in Indiana are eligible to vote absentee-in-person at the county election board office beginning 29 days before Election Day. Application must be received by your county election board at least 8 days before election day in order to receive absentee ballot. Specific ballot return instructions will accompany your absentee ballot or contact the Indiana Election Division.
