a) Reducing the Deficit: I will continue to stand up to the special interests by pushing for lobby reform and by casting the hard votes to cut spending; If re-elected, the National Taxpayers Union and other groups that are independent will continue to rate me as one of the top senators in voting to cut spending and government waste. b) Fighting crime: The first responsibilty of government is to provide for the safety of its citizens; I will continue to fight for reasonable gun control, more cops on the street and stiffer penalties for those who commit crimes.
