Bob Henry Baber has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2014 Political Courage Test.
Pro-choice | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
But we are doing abortions far too capriciously in the US. I support opposing sides of this issue coming together to promote: Abstinence and sex education, and stream0lined adoption procedures. Together we can seek a goal of reducing abortions by 1/2. |
Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Campaign finance reform is the single most important issue--trumping all others. Our Democracy is in grave danger of being up for bid to the highest bidders. Also, the two-party system is corrupt from top to bottom. |
No | Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Capital punishment is cruel and unusual punishment. |
Yes | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No | Do you support lowering taxes as a way of promoting growth in the economy?
Yes | Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Corporation "inverting" their taxes overseas is immoral and should be illegal. |
Yes | Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
Yes. I do support primarily local control, but believe the government has a role in improving education nationwide. |
No | Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Yes | Do you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
Keystone appears to be an export line that will not benefit the people of the US. |
Yes | Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Here in Appalachia Mountaintop Removal strip-mining is ecocide. Clean coal is like dry water. I understand coal will be with us for some time, but we need to retrain miners, promote energy conservation, and create the green energy jobs of the future--nationwide. |
Yes | Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
But I see no indication that anybody will impose limits of any kind on our national obsession with guns. |
No | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
It was a decent patch on a torn quilt. About 40 million Americans saw improvement in their situation. Two of my children in college got to come back on my family policy at no cost to me. I understand there were 26 million others like them. I support health care as a right. |
No | Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
We need to set clear pathways for citizenship. |
Yes | Do you support same-sex marriage?
The courts are ruling one by one in favor of Gay marriage. I support their right to be as miserable as the rest of us (joke)! |
Yes | Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
No | Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
This is a complex question. By what right, I ask, should we, who possess thousands of nuclear weapons, assert that others should not? |
No | Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
Social Security works well in its current form. |

I support all forms of green energy. |
Campaign finance reform is our number one issue. The supreme Court ruling that money equals free speech is the worst decision ever rendered by the court. I support an Amendment to limit campaign spending. I support raising the minimum wage to at least $10 per hour. This will boost the economy. I support decreasing defense and spending the money on rebuilding our own infrastructure, reducing student debt, and promoting green jobs. |
