Washington State Legislative Election 2010 Political Courage Test

Pro-life a) Do you consider yourself pro-choice or pro-life?
No b) Should abortion be legal only within the first trimester of pregnancy?
No c) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
No d) Should abortion be legal when the life of the woman is endangered?
Yes e) Do you support requiring parental notification before an abortion is performed on a minor?
Yes f) Do you support requiring parental consent before an abortion is performed on a minor?
No g) Do you support sexual education programs that include information on abstinence, contraceptives, and HIV/STD prevention methods?
Yes h) Do you support abstinence-only sexual education programs?
Question d) is a red herring. Under medical ethics practices that have been in place for decades, when you have two patients and you can only save one for sure, the patient that has the most likely chance of survival is the one you save. This would be the case in the supposed life of the mother question. This is a question that is not needed in my opinion. There has been a lot of dishonesty on the subject of sexual education. Ultimately this should not be mandated by the state, but should be controlled by local school boards.

My budget priorities are Transportation, education (higher ed), and public health and safety. I am against raising taxes to expand any spending. Any increase in spending should be based on re-prioritization of state spending, not more overall state spending. It is imperative that we develop a sustainable budget process in Washington based on limited government, low taxation, and a pro growth/job development approach to our regulatory structure. There must be real reform in K-12 education. I reject that supporting education equals just pumping more and more money into a system that continues to fail.

Create real budget reform. decrease spending and regulations that have stifled growth and job creation. We need to get Washingtonians back to work, create an environment of investment for businesses and create a sustainable budgeting process based on prioritization of spending. We need to decrease property taxes and protect property rights in particular water rights. The DOE has exercised too much control over the average citizen's life. It's time for reform of that department.
