While caring and supportive parental involvement with a pregnant daughter is the ideal, the reality is that many young women grow up in situations that are terrifying. I believe our laws have to have exemptions for pregnant minors in such situations - thus my no answers above. I am working toward a world in which women are respected as equals with men, each person practices sexual responsibility, and pregnancy is postponed until desired. Making abortion illegal would not end abortion; it would mean that many desperate women die without safe, legal help, the situation we had before Roe v. Wade.

We should collect sales tax on internet sales; close tax loopholes; and de-couple federal taxes from state taxes. (MO is one of only six states allowing federal taxes to be deducted when filing state taxes.) Missouri's individual income tax is outdated, inadequate, and unfair. The tax table has not been changed since 1931, so all those with taxable income pay at Missouri's top tax bracket of six percent. We could update the tax table, reduce taxes for 60% of Missourians, and produce $1.3 billion through progressive changes for the top 20%.

Stimulating the economy depends on growing the middle class, not on "trickle down" economics in which tax policy advantages the super-wealthy (which has proven a failure repeatedly). We need to invest in the common good (green technology, roads, bridges, mass transit, public schools, our aging drinking water/storm water systems, etc.). We also need to invest more in worker re-training and increase access to affordable higher education to fuel research, development, and economic creativity. Needed revenue could come from taxing internet sales, increasing tobacco tax to the national average, and modernizing our outdated, unfair, and inadequate individual income tax system.
