  • Trent Franks. Congressman Trent Franks Clarifies "Enemy of Humanity" Comment. September 29, 2009. "While I absolutely should have made the meaning of my statement more clear, the facts remain that these radical pro-abortion policies do not have place in a government founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights," and chief among those rights is the right to life. Without that right, no others matter." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Congressman Trent Franks: Obama Science Advisor's Views are Extreme and Inhumane. July 29, 2009. "President Obama's selection for this post confirms what many in the pro-life community have warned all along -- not only is President Obama pro-abortion, but he is, by far, the single most pro-abortion President in our nation's history. Not only has he filled his administration with those who favor abortion, but he has seemingly gone out of his way to recruit the most radical abortion proponents imaginable, as he has once again done in appointing Mr. Holdren as his science advisor." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Franks Blasts Democrats For Holding Troop Funding Hostage To Promote Abortion-On-Demand. September 23, 2010. "Senate Democrats are demonstrating that there is absolutely no low to which they will stoop in order to shove their radical agenda down the throats of the American people. Even as men and women in uniform are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, Senator Roland Burris has introduced an amendment to this year's National Defense Authorization Act that would allow abortions to be performed at military hospitals, including those on foreign battlefields." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Health Care. November 6, 2009. "The cost of the Pelosi government takeover of health care and new taxes it would impose alone are a disaster of the first magnitude for America. But the monstrosity of the Pelosi health care plan doesn't even end there. On September 9, during his address to the joint session of Congress, President Obama stated verbatim the following quote: 'One more misunderstanding I want to clear up--under our plan, no Federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.' But despite promises and statements made by the President to the contrary, Mr. Speaker, this bill explicitly allows Federal funding of abortion and permits Federal subsidies to go to private insurance plans that cover abortion, making this bill potentially the largest expansion of abortion on demand in America since Roe v. Wade." (votesmart.org)

  • Trent Franks. No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. May 4, 2011. (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Op-Ed: Courage In The House. January 22, 2010. "For me, that experience was watching a movie over 30 years ago called Assignment: Life, a film which revealed to me the horror and tragedy of abortion, both for unborn babies and their mothers. From that moment my soul was indelibly marked by the conviction that I would give my life to the cause of protecting innocent unborn children." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Issue Position: Abortion. June 27, 2011. "While there are many sincere people on both sides of this issue, all of us must ask the central question. Does abortion kill a baby? If it does not, then it is a non-issue. If abortion does kill a child, then you and I are living in the midst of the greatest human holocaust in the history of mankind. Ultimately, if we as a society cannot find the will or the courage to protect mothers and their unborn children, in the final analysis, we will never truly find the courage to protect any kind of liberty for anyone." • Trent Franks. Letter To The Honorable Barack Obama, President Of The United States Of America. February 4, 2010. "As private sector payrolls continue to shrink, it is important to recognize the difference between taxpayer funded jobs in government and deficit spending on temporary employment, versus wealth generation which creates long-term private industry jobs. For private industry to create jobs and generate wealth (and thus more tax revenue without raising taxes) the people and businesses of this country need more than access to raw materials, labor, and markets for the material goods produced." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Trent Franks Condemns Liberal Democrats for Yet Another Bailout. December 11, 2009. "From the so-called "stimulus,' which has been a demonstrable failure, to the "Cash for Clunkers" program, which ran out of money within a week, to cap-and-tax, which amounts to the largest tax increase in American history, to a government takeover of the American health care system, to government takeovers of private banks and automotive companies, Democrats have clearly made it their mission to drastically extend the reach of the federal government in ways never before seen in our nation -- the land of the free." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Where are the Jobs. July 21, 2009. "This Congress and this administration must be reminded by the American people that what comprises true economic growth are jobs and economic productivity by the people. Higher taxes, increased regulation, reckless spending, bureaucratic selection of economic winners and losers and out-of-control deficit spending, these are the Democrat policies of the last five months, and they diminish productivity instead of encouraging it. They will kill jobs. And unless we change course, Mr. Speaker, this country faces an unprecedented economic failure." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Congressman Trent Franks Calls National Tea Party An Encouraging Success. September 12, 2009. "Having spent much of this year fighting inconceivably bad policies like Cap-and-Tax, ObamaCare, Cash for Clunkers, and a seemingly countless number of efforts to expand the reach of government into private industries, it is so encouraging to see freedom-loving Americans from all over the country go to so much trouble to exercise one of their most basic rights, that of petitioning our government, and make their voices heard. Americans realize that the current Administration and Democrat-controlled Congress have put us on a slippery-slope toward socialism. These patriotic citizens have had enough of being told to listen to Washington; it's time for Washington to listen to them." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Congressman Franks Opposes Democrats' Permanent Death Tax Bill. December 3, 2009. "Unfortunately, despite their bailouts and stimulus package resulting in a more than 10% unemployment rate, the Democrats in Congress continue to believe that government is the answer to getting our economy back on solid footing. H.R. 4154 is a fundamentally flawed piece of legislation that makes permanent an unfair tax while neither setting a reasonable rate, providing an appropriate exemption amount, or indexing that amount to inflation." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Congressman Franks Statement on House Stimulus Package. January 27, 2008. "Given the environment that our negotiators had to work with, I believe the swift House agreement reached on the stimulus package to be a positive one. The primary component of the plan which I take issue with is the idea of giving 'tax relief' to those who do not pay taxes. Overall, however, I am pleased that not only will this package provide a direct, quick infusion into taxpayers' pockets and an immediate boost to the economy, but that no unrelated spending or tax increases were included in the plan. It is our hope that the Senate will refrain from adding wasteful and unrelated spending to the bill." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Franks Statement On Democrats' Trillion Dollar Spending Bill. January 28, 2009. "If there is any proof that Washington cannot borrow-and-spend money it doesn't have to create prosperity and reinvigorate a lagging economy, it is in the failure of each bailout package it has passed thus far to do anything more than increase the debt burden we are handing to our children. Any true economic stimulus must place the emphasis on spurring the development of small business through tax relief and the regulatory reform necessary to unleash the creativity, determination, and resourcefulness of the American people." (votesmart.org)
  • Trent Franks. Business and the Economy. 18 September 2012. This is why he opposed every government bailout and so-called "stimulus" package." (www.trentfranks.com)

"I have been passionate about education my entire career, which is why I write in support of Arizona's Race to the Top Round 2 application [¦] Arizona has demonstrated its strong commitment to these policy initiatives. Race to the Top funds will most certainly help with their implementation. I am confident that this plan will propel necessary education reform in Arizona." (www.azrecovery.gov)
  • Trent Franks. Issue Position: Education. "We are fortunate in this country to have some of the finest teachers and administrators we could ever hope for, but our educational system itself is fatally flawed. It is time we commit to giving our children the best by empowering parents to choose the schools their children will attend, whether they be public, private, parochial, or home schools. I believe one of the best ways to do this is Scholarship Tax Credits. This approach will improve the entire public and private educational system, across the board and will finally place children and the quality of their education at the very top of the system's priority list." Jim DeMint last Tuesday introduced a measure seeking to amend the U.S. Constitution to allow parents to raise children in the way they see fit. The Parental Rights Amendment would impose a "compelling interest" test on government entities before they interfere with parents' rights to direct their children's education or other aspects of their upbringing. 'In my three decades of public service, I have consistently focused on protecting the right of parents to make decisions for their children,' Franks said. 'Put simply, there are really only two options when it comes to who will determine the substance of a child's education: It will either be a bureaucrat who doesn't know the child's name, or a parent who would pour out their last drop of blood for the child.'" "As a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, I strongly believe in the Second Amendment to the constitution, which guarantees law-abiding citizens the right to own and bear arms. Criminals have always preferred and will continue to prefer unarmed victims. Prison surveys indicate when a criminal considers breaking into a home, the greatest deterrent, in his mind, is the fear that his intended victims might be armed. Despite the traditional trend of a left-leaning Democratic government to inhibit Second Amendment freedoms, the Democratic leaders in the House and Senate are not unified with the Obama Administration in their position on the Assault Weapons Ban. The manner with which your administration has introduced this policy not only robs the public of a thorough betting, but it also fails to appreciate the negative consequences of this policy shift...Also, this policy has the added affect of further encouraging illegal immigration. Frankly put, if we don't take our own laws seriously enough to enforce, why should we expect anyone to follow them? This policy will introduce a new wave a illegal immigrants emboldened with the knowledge that not only is it okay to break the law, but they will likely be rewarded for it with de facto amnesty statues, thereby exacerbating an already vicious cycle we as a nation try been trying to address for over two decades. This attempt to satisfy the narrow interests for the pro-amnesty lobby has ultimately earned the distrust of the greater American public. • Trent Franks. Franks Praises U.S. Forces for Bringing Osama Bin Laden to Justice. 2 May 2011. "The announcement that Osama Bin Laden has been killed by U.S. special forces is a testament to the dedication of our men and women in uniform, who yesterday struck a victory for justice and freedom by destroying the leader of the most notorious terrorist group in the world -- an organization that has accounted for the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians. As we move forward from this momentous day, let us not forget that, while the death of Osama Bin Laden is unquestionably a battle won, we will not have truly won the greater war against radical jihad until the violent, hateful ideology that marked bin Laden's life -- the same ideology still espoused by rogue nations like Iran -- is rejected across humanity and the world. But, in the fitting words of Ronald Reagan, I believe that, in the final analysis, 'the march of freedom and democracy' will leave jihadist terrorism 'on the ash-heap of history as it has left other tyrannies which stifle the freedom and muzzle the self-expression of the people.'" It is essential for Yemen to remain a focal point for U.S. anti-terrorism efforts. In 2000, the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Cole was attacked in a terrorist effort planned by Al Qaeda, which killed 17 U.S. servicemen and wounded 39 others. Nearly a decade later, both the Christmas Day bombing plot of 2009 and the November 2010 AQAP plot to use cargo planes to hide parcel bombs to attack the U.S. had roots in Yemen.
