Trent Franks' Issue Positions (Political Courage Test)

Office: U.S. House (AZ) - District 8, Republican
Project Vote Smart does not permit the use of its name or programs in any campaign activity, including advertising, debates, and speeches.
Trent Franks has refused to provide voters with positions on key issues covered by the 2016 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their parties and advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads. Trent Franks is still welcome to submit the test at any time.

What is the Political Courage Test?

Issue Positions

In response to the increasing unwillingness of candidates to answer issue questions, Project Vote Smart has researched Presidential and Congressional candidates' public records to determine candidates' likely responses on certain key issues. These issue positions, from the year 2016, are provided below as a courtesy to voters.

Pro-life Inferred Answer Abortion: Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? View Citations

Vote Smart's Research

  • Rated 0% by Planned Parenthood http://votesmart.org/candidate/evaluations/28399/trent-franks/2 (votesmart.org)
  • "It is my deep conviction that whenever an abortion takes place, a mother is never quite the same. A nameless little baby dies a tragic and lonely death and all the gifts the child might have brought to humanity are lost forever." http://votesmart.org/public-statement/392694/issue-position-abortion#.VXmg5HUVhHw (votesmart.org)
  • "The United States Constitution guarantees to all the 'right to life,' Human life commences with fertilization, cloning, or its functional equivalent. Who else can state with exact certainty when a human life does or does not begin? I have made it one of my priorities in public office to fight for the end of abortion on demand. I believe that life begins at conception; that each life is given by our Creator." http://franks.house.gov/issue/sanctity-life (franks.house.gov)
No Inferred Answer Budget: In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket? View Citations

Vote Smart's Research

  • "Dramatically slowing the rate of federal spending growth, easing the regulatory and tax burden on productivity in this country, and eliminating government waste are all critical if we are to balance this federal budget monster and return this nation to consistent economic prosperity. • "[...] I will continue to support policies which accomplish the following five common-sense economic principles: Cutting taxes to encourage work, savings and job-creating investment Eliminating red tape and bureaucracy at all levels Abolishing federal income tax in favor of a National Sales Tax." http://franks.house.gov/issue/taxes-and-the-economy (franks.house.gov)

Vote Smart's Research

Vote Smart's Research

  • "As the West Valley's primary voice in Congress, I realize that one of the most critical transportation issues we face is the traffic congestion and bottlenecks on Interstate 10, which the road was not originally designed to manage.
