What is the Political Courage Test?

Congressional Election 2006 National Political Awareness Test

The Political Courage Test asks candidates which items they will support if elected. It does not ask them to indicate which items they will oppose. Through extensive research of public polling data, we discovered that voters are more concerned with what candidates would support when elected to office, not what they oppose. If a candidate does not select a response to any part or all of any question, it does not necessarily indicate that the candidate is opposed to that particular item.

Congress has taken several important steps toward balancing the budget. In June, the House passed the Legislative Line Item Veto Act, to make Congress more accountable for the spending it proposes, eliminate wasteful spending, and protect taxpayer dollars. This Spring, the House passed a fiscally-responsible budget for Fiscal Year 2007 aimed at holding the line on spending and providing a "rainy day" fund for disaster response. These initiatives will help to bring our budget back in line, while continuing to meet America's needs by targeting dollars where they are needed most.
