  • Jerry Nadler. Project Vote Smart: 2010 New York Congressional Political Courage Test. Selected "Yes" for: "d) Should the United States continue to strike suspected terrorist targets in Pakistan?" International Policy Issues Other or expanded principles: "f) Should the United States support the creation of a Palestinian State? Yes, but only as the outcome of an agreement negotiated directly with Israel, and only if de-militarized and with strong security guarantees for Israel. i) Do you support the United States' involvement in free trade agreements? We should negotiate only fair trade agreements. All the free trade agreements since NAFTA have been one-sided and have helped export jobs from the United States and generated our tremendous trade deficit."
  • Jerrold Nadler. Letter. 25 May 2011. "Today, the House will begin consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act. Section 1034 of this 920-page bill contains perhaps the broadest authorization for use of military force (AUMF) Congress has ever considered. This monumental legislation will affirmatively and preemptively give the president unprecedented power to launch attacks anywhere in the world, even within the United States. The bipartisan Amash-Lee-Conyers-Jones-Nadler-Paul amendment (No. 50) strikes this provision, and we ask that you stand with us and support this amendment on the floor. Section 1034 authorizes American military force against a broad and unknown class of persons. Unlike the AUMF Congress passed in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the new authorization targets "al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated forces"--an undefined and potentially limitless group. "Associated forces" don't need to be connected to 9/11. "Associated forces" don't need to have fought against the United States. "Associated forces" even may include American citizens." We should enact a large stimulus to increase aggregate demand to reduce unemployment and get the economy out of the deep recession it's in. We must let the Bush tax cuts expire for the top 2% of the population ($250,000 income). And re-establish an estate tax for estates over $3.5 million ($7 million per couple). We must not reduce social security or medicare benefits in anyway. We should tax capital gains at the same rate as wage income as did the 1986 Tax Reform Act under President Reagan.

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.

My top priorities are: Continuing the push for civil rights and civil liberties, such as the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), passage of the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) to humanize immigration law and stop the separation of LGBT families, reforming the state secrets privilege, and reforms of PATRIOT Act abuses. Increasing investment in transportation that will grow the economy, create jobs and save energy. And pursue intelligent economic policies that will stimulate our economy and promote economic.
