Through the hard work of millions of Americans and our fiscal discipline in Congress, we have a fiscal surplus which has allowed us to begin paying down our national debt, protect Social Security and Medicare, improve health care access, lower unemployment rates and allowed a 50% funding increase in public education. We must continue to focus on our recent successes by practicing fiscal responsibility so we can fund essential government services and protect these goals.
