I believe we can reduce military spending in a way that does not jeopardize our National Defense. I support returning to the Clinton tax brackets for those individuals who make over one million dollars. • Michael Doyle. Issue Position: Education. 1 January 2011. "I believe that our schools must be held accountable for the quality of education they provide our children, and that the federal government has a corresponding obligation to provide local schools with the resources they need to meet any new demands that Congress imposes on them. I voted in support of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001 -- but I am greatly concerned about the way the law has been implemented. I was extremely disappointed that President Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress did not provide the money needed to meet the goals of the bill. I believe that it is terribly unfair to expect schools to meet the NCLBA standards without providing them with the resources the bill promised them. Moreover, I believe that the Bush Administration also poorly administered the No Child Left Behind Act." (votesmart.org)

"I believe that greater restrictions on the sale of military technology to the public are clearly called for, but that's only one part of what we need to do to reduce the epidemic of violence in our country. First and foremost, we clearly need tougher gun control laws. Reinstatement of the federal assault gun ban would limit the availability of weapons like the AK-47 that Richard Poplawski used to kill officers Kelly, Mayhle, and Sciullo - and more thorough background checks and better records could prevent unstable individuals like Mr. Poplawski from securing such powerful weapons." (votesmart.org)
Other or expanded principles

I believe an individual has the right to own guns for the purpose of hunting and protection subject to background checks to verify that he/she is law abiding and mentally stable.
I support the assault weapons ban and restrictions on military style weapons.
