Pro-choice | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Almost universally, not even a pro-choice supporter likes abortion. But it is the 'Law of the Land'. And it's the woman that has to make the final decision because it is her body. I do not want women to have abortions. I want women to practice safe sex and use contraceptives so that abortion is not necessary. Yes, I support Planned Parenthood so it is easy for both men and women to have medical access for heath issues related to sex. |
Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Some form of income tax increase is an essential component of balancing the federal budget. Many assert that reform should maintain or increase the progressive nature of the tax code, and that reducing the deficit will require high income earners to contribute the most. Until I hear a better plan we will have to take back the tax breaks and incentives that the rich have received over the years. I think that incentives for businesses are a bad idea over long periods of time. And we need to look at capital gains that are taxed at only 15%. |
Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Having experienced the inequities of our current campaign finance system, I strongly support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations because of the undue influence they often exert. We need to end Citizens United now. No elected office should be bought. |
Yes | Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes | Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No | Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
Making sure that murderers do more than a year or two in prison makes perfect sense. But time hasn't been as kind to the idea of harsh, inflexible sentences for lesser crimes, particularly the drug offenses that account for more than half the population in federal prisons, which are running about 40% over capacity. There's been a huge dollar cost to state and federal governments and a social cost in poorer neighborhoods whose young men are disproportionately sent to prison. Something has to give. |
Yes | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No | Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes | Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Congressional Research Service (CRS) has found support for the theory that lowering taxes have no effect on economic growth. Analysis suggests that tax policies take time to work its full effects on the economy. When the specification is sufficiently general to pick up these effects, a negative relationship between taxes and income growth emerges. Over all, lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth doesn't work. |
No | Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Yes | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes | Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
NO MORE FRACKING. Grow hemp! |
Yes | Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Human activities are contributing to climate change, primarily by releasing billions of tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other heat-trapping gases, known as greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere every year. Changes in the climate system affect our health, environment, and economy. We can prepare for some of the impacts of climate change to reduce their effects on our well-being if we act now. |
No | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Only if we have something better to replace it with. |
Yes | Do you support same-sex marriage?
Everyone should have a chance to have a happy life and share it with someone they love. |
No | Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
This proposal to turn our Social Security system over to private corporations would lead to huge losses for retirees who depend on Social Security. It would create investment risks that cannot be tolerated in our Social Security program. Social Security needs to be protected. People have put into Social Security, it is not an entitlement program in that sense. It's a return on what people have put into it. It's critical to our elders. Their resources are being drained. Debt among elders is skyrocketing. We can hardly afford to trim back Social Security as would happen in a privatized system. |
