At the minimum, the corporate tax rate should be lowered and locked in for an extended period of time that would allow businesses to make medium to long term investment plans. The estate and gift tax must be repealed." (votesmart.org)
No Candidate Answer Economy: Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth? View Citations

Vote Smart's Research

  • Ted Yoho. Spending and Our National Debt. 4 April 2012. "The national debt has reached an unprecedented $15.4 trillion and it continues to grow daily. Out of control spending harms not only our quality of life but that of future generations. It is a direct threat to our national security. Solution: Spending more than we take in, printing money at rates that devalue our dollar and too many taxpayer dollars being sent overseas as foreign aid are all adding to our economic uncertainty. I will not only evaluate existing federal programs but act to end wasteful projects and programs immediately. We must stop unnecessary spending." (votesmart.org)

NoDo you support the temporary extension of unemployment benefits?
YesDo you support the 2010 temporary extension of tax relief?
Other or expanded principles

I do not believe in Keynesian economics as a way to stimulate the economy. I believe in the free markets and free enterprise system as the best way to stimulate the economy. This can be accomplished by reducing government regulation and mandates.

NoCandidate AnswerDo you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
Other or expanded principles

I believe that the Department of Education should be eliminated over a 3-5 year process through attrition and reassignment. The monies should be returned to the States and education should be left at the State level.

YesCandidate AnswerDo you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
Other or expanded principles

I believe that America should already be energy independent and setting the example on how to address energy issues. Unfortunately this is not the case. With the abundance of resources we have in this country, we should be utilizing those responsibly while letting the free market develop new energy technologies. The Department of Energy needs to be eliminated and all uranium enrichment and nuclear technology needs to be transferred to the Dept. of Defense.

NoDo you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
NoCandidate AnswerDo you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Other or expanded principles
NoCandidate AnswerDo you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
Other or expanded principles
YesCandidate AnswerDo you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
NoShould individuals be required to purchase health insurance, as mandated in the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
Other or expanded principles

Washington has failed to lead on this issue and has created a climate of confusion where in reality they should be creating an environment of certainty. We need personal ownership of insurance policies, open borders among states so that companies can compete for business which would lower the costs, cut out the waste, fraud and duplicitous processes and finally, we need tort reform.

NoCandidate AnswerDo you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
YesDo you support allowing illegal immigrants, who were brought to the United States as minors, to pursue citizenship without returning to their country of origin?
YesDo you support the enforcement of federal immigration law by state and local police?
Other or expanded principles

Again, Washington has failed to lead on this issue. The first thing we must do is secure the borders. The technology and infrastructure exists to do so. The second thing we must do is issue an ID card for all non-US citizens presently in the US. We need to create a workable guest worker program that will allow migrant workers to go back and forth from their home countries to the United States without hassle. They would pay taxes into the general fund but not receive any benefits. Finally, we need to streamline the path to citizenship.

NoCandidate AnswerDo you support same-sex marriage?
Other or expanded principles

I believe in equal rights for everyone, but marriage is defined as one woman and one man.

NoCandidate AnswerDo you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
NoShould the U.S use military force in order to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon?
Other or expanded principles

I believe in the Reagan philosophy - If you attack us, we win and you lose. I would add, have a nice day.

YesCandidate AnswerDo you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
Other or expanded principles

I believe that people should have the option of 100% privatization when it comes to social security.

I support the Fair Tax which would eliminate all of the above. The Fair Tax is based on consumption and everyone pays in based on what and how much they consume, hence it being fair.

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.

1. Realign the direction of our Country to a Constitutional Republic.
2. Grow the economy by 100% repealing and de-funding Obamacare, reducing the rules, regulations and mandates on our farmers, ranchers and businesses.
3. Pass the Fair Tax and abolish the IRS
4. Balance our federal Budget
