Vote Smart's Research

  • "[...] Richard believes it is long past time for conservatives to draw a line in the sand. We can count on him to fight to restore fiscal sanity to Washington, DC. Washington is broken and we need conservative solutions and steadfast leadership to fix it." (
  • "The only way to create jobs is by restoring fiscal sanity to Washington. Years of reckless spending have led our country into a dire economic situation overtaken by mountains of debt and a tax code that is crippling our nation’s job creators and North Carolina’s hardworking families. I am committed to working with my House colleagues to find commonsense solutions to halt the wasteful spending, reform a cumbersome tax code, and decrease the size of government." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • "I support any effort to limit the massive growth of government that brings with it new and higher taxes, and look forward to working with my colleagues on legislation that will spur job growth, reduce the tax and regulatory burden, and provide an environment of certainty to business and individuals." (
  • "We need tax reform that broadens and flattens tax rates and eliminates many of the loop holes." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • "We can commit to improving education by moving from the bureaucratic-dominated status quo to a reformed system that includes accountability and increased parent choice." (
  • "[...] he supports eliminating bloated education bureaucracy, so our tax dollars are used to educate children, not to fund liberal bureaucrats. Richard will fight for the right of parents to home school their children and as our Congressman, he will maintain his strong support of charter schools." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • "We have waited long enough. This bipartisan vote to construct the Keystone XL pipeline is just another example of how serious the House is about growing our economy, spurring job-creation and securing energy independence." (
  • Voted in favor of S.1. "A Bill to Approve the Keystone XL Pipeline" (

Vote Smart's Research

  • "A balanced and responsible approach is the solution. This means developing more of America's own energy resources, including wind, solar, clean coal, biofuels, nuclear energy, as well as oil and natural gas, which will reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil and create thousands of jobs here at home." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • "On top of this economy, where folks are struggling and just trying to stay afloat, trying to keep food on the table for their families and paying the bills, the President comes out today 4 years to the day from when he introduced his disastrous cap-and-trade ideas and has this new scheme that's going to add cost to our energy, that's going to destroy jobs in this country, and it's just unconscionable." (
  • Signed a pledge stating "I, Richard Hudson, pledge to the American people that I will oppose any legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • Rated 90% by Gun Owners of America (
  • "A lifelong hunter, sportsman and member of the National Rifle Association, Richard knows the Second Amendment is America’s First Freedom. Richard vigorously defends the rights of all law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. Richard knows that our God-given rights ensure that Americans can own firearms for hunting, shooting sports, self-defense or any other lawful purpose." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • "North Carolinians deserve better, and I'll continue to fight for them to repeal and replace Obamacare with patient-centered reforms that provide quality health care, lower costs and restore the doctor-patient relationship." (
  • "These are just a few reasons why I am so committed to repealing this law in its entirety and replacing it with real, patient-centered reforms that expand access to quality health care while actually lowering costs. We must get rid of this disastrous law because at the end of the day this is all about people." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • "The President's lawless actions reward those who come here illegally at the expense of legal immigrants who are following the law and waiting in line; these actions threaten American jobs by giving work permits to illegal immigrants over American workers; and these actions make it harder to deport convicted child predators by downgrading their priority for deportation." (
  • "Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants would be an affront to the millions of legal immigrants and to the citizens of our great country." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • Rated 100% by the Christian Coalition of America (
  • "Richard believes that marriage should always be a sacred union between one man and one woman." (

Vote Smart's Research

  • "Additionally, this resolution authorizes arming and training appropriately vetted opposition fighters in the battle against ISIS. While I continue to have deep concerns about President Obama’s leadership in this conflict and remain skeptical that his strategy will be sufficient, I do believe it is important to take necessary steps to defeat this barbaric enemy." (
  • "We must identify individuals who pose a threat, such as extremists with Western passports who have joined the fight in Iraq or Syria, and take the necessary steps to protect the homeland." (

f,g,h,j: We need tax reform that broadens and flattens tax rates and eliminates many of the loop holes.

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.

First, we need to get the economy moving by eliminating burdensome regulations, reforming the tax code, establishing an "all of the above" energy policy and replacing ObamaCare with market reforms in health care. Second, we need to dramatically reduce spending, balance the budget and start paying down the national debt. Finally, we need real immigration reform. We need to close the borders first and foremost, end "birth right citizenship," and then we can reform the legal immigration system so we can track immigrants, verify citizenship for employment, and then we can have a worker program that meets our workforce needs.
