  • Karen Harrington. Issue Position: Education. 30 July 2012. "Education does not begin with some bureaucrat in Washington, nor should they be the ones who decide what should be taught in school. Education should not begin with state or local officials. It should begin in our homes, where it is a parental right and responsibility. Education decisions should be made by the local community where parents can work in tandem with local school boards to create and administer curricula that will ensure children are better prepared for a global economy." "We have natural gas and oil in Alaska, off the shores of California, in the gulf states and off our own shores right here in Florida. Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.

My highest priority is start creating jobs once again. To do so, I will work my colleagues to cut taxes, cut government spending and creating an environment that encourages small businesses to grow. I believe we need health care reform and have for some time. However, I believe the bill passed in the winter did not achieve our two most critical objectives: more accessibility to health care at a more affordable price. I will support repealing the health care bill or the elements of it I regard as damaging.
