  • Billy Long. Congressman Long Votes to Outlaw Taxpayer-Supported Abortion. 4 May 2011. "I am 100 percent pro-life. We cannot attack the taxpayer funding of abortion in a piecemeal fashion.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. H Amdt 95. 112th Congress. Prohibiting Use of Federal Funds For Planned Parenthood. Billy Long voted Yea on 02/18/2011. (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Issues: Abortion. 27 January 2011. “I have co-sponsored several pro-life bills. If passed, these bills will establish that life begins at conception, prevent tax payer dollars from funding abortions, and ensure that no funds provided under Title X should be awarded to entities which perform services for, or provide funds to, another entity which performs abortions.” (billylongforcongress.com)
  • Billy Long. Issue Position: Conservative Values. 1 January 2011. “Before the Roe v. Wade battle heated up in 1973, I had not heard of abortion. Once someone explained the practice to me I found it to be literally jaw dropping and I still feel that way today. We must be the voice of the weakest members of society, the unborn who cannot protect themselves. I will work hard to fight abortion, prevent any government funding for abortion, and do anything I can to save the innocent lives, which are being lost on a daily basis.” (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Long Calls for Greater Transparency from President on Sequestration. 18 July 2012. "[Long:] 'We all know our escalating national debt is dangerous for all Americans since it threatens our economic and national security. We must reduce our overall budget, but dramatically reducing defense while ignoring the primary drivers of our debt is both unwise and dangerous' […] In May, Long voted in favor of the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act, which would replace the defense spending cuts currently in place with reductions in mandatory spending." (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Enough Empty Promises. 30 July 2011. “Today Congressman Billy Long voted against Majority Leader Reid's Budget Plan, a plan that relied on phantom savings, Washington budget gimmicks, crippling defense cuts, and a taxpayer signed blank check for the President -- all designed to get Democrats past the 2012 presidential election instead of solving America's debt crisis.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Issue Position: National Defense. 1 January 2012. “At a time when we are fighting wars overseas, we must continue to support our troops. Our service men and women make our military the strongest in the world. They defend our nation and our way of life against those who would destroy our safety, freedom, and values. Congress must give them our unwavering support to complete their mission as quickly and safely as possible.” (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Long Votes to Stop the End of Year Tax Hikes on Families and Small Business. 1 August 2012. “Long voted in support of the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act (H.R. 8). The legislation would stop the scheduled end of year tax increases by extending the current income tax rates for one year. The one year extension of all current tax rates is meant to serve as an avenue to address long overdue reform of the broken tax code. Long has worked to simplify the tax code since coming to Congress and is proud of co-sponsoring the Fair Tax (H.R. 25) and the Tax Code Termination Act (H.R. 462). The Fair Tax eliminates the Internal Revenue Service, the income tax, employment tax, and the death tax while establishing a consumption-based tax.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long signed the Americans for Tax Reform Taxpayers Protection Pledge. “I, Billy Long, pledge to the taxpayers of the 7th district of the state of Missouri and to the American people that I will: ONE, oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rate for individuals and business; and TWO, oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.” (atr.org)
  • Billy Long. Long Supports Pathway to Simpler, Fairer Tax Code. 2 August 2012. “Long supports reforming the tax code, and the first bill he cosponsored in Congress was the Fair Tax (H.R. 25). The Fair Tax eliminates the Internal Revenue Service, the income tax, employment tax, and the death tax, and establishes a consumption-based tax.” (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. LONG RESPONDS TO PRESIDENT OBAMA'S ADDRESS TO CONGRESS. 8 September 2011. “If government spending solved every problem the Obama administration should have spent us into utopia by now. It is time to stop pushing catastrophic debt on our children and grandchildren. Families and businesses in Southwest Missouri can’t spend 42% more than they take in and neither can the federal government.” (long.house.gov)
  • Billy Long. Long: The Debate in Washington Has Changed. 1 August 2011. “The Budget Control Act makes a down payment on severe spending reforms with cuts and controls totaling $917 billion over the next decade. The bill reduces the FY2012 budget deficit by $17 billion and holds federal spending below FY2010 levels until FY2016. With the formation of the Joint Select Committee, Congressman Long is optimistic a serious plan to achieve another $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction can be produced by November of this year.” (long.house.gov)
  • Billy Long. Republican Jobs Agenda. 2 November 2011. “As part of the House GOP Plan for America's Job Creators, we've opposed the President whenever he wants to create new taxes or more regulations. So far this year, the House of Representatives has passed many bills that focus on job creation. These are real jobs bills that create real wealth-producing private sector jobs--not fake bills like the stimulus that didn't do anything but stimulate the national debt.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Our Goal is to Cut Spending - Not Shut Down the Government. 29 August 2011. “As one of the eighty-seven Freshman Republicans in the 112th Congress of the United States, I'd like to report we're doing our part to reduce an unsustainable spending level. While we worked past midnight two nights last week and finished with a vote at 4:30AM on Saturday, our effort will be like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic.? With a staggering 1.6 trillion dollar annual deficit, reducing our spending by 100 billion dollars was the least we could do. […] The stimulus was suppose to create or save 3.5 million jobs, but since passage we've lost 2.5 million jobs nationwide.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. The Debt Ceiling. 19 July 2011. “What have we gotten for this unprecedented level of Federal spending? Our infrastructure is crumbling, our economy is weak, and jobs are not being created. If government spending stimulated anything, then business should be booming. It turns out the only stimulus going on is the debt. And despite all of that, despite common sense, the President is asking for even more credit. The President wants us to trust that government will live within its means this time. Giving a blank check to the government makes as much sense as investing with Bernie Madoff.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Create Jobs: Support Free Trade. 12 September 2011. “The simple truth is that the government can't create jobs, only our private industry can. And every business tells me the same thing: that they are afraid of new taxes and regulations being thrown at them by over zealous bureaucrats in Washington. I applaud the President and the Democrats for finally focusing on job creation, but after years of trying their failed policies things have only gotten worse. Two years ago it was the "stimulus package," and last year it was Obamacare. By now it should be clear we cannot spend our way to prosperity.” (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Republican Jobs Agenda. 2 November 2011. “Our Tax Code needs to be fixed, and that's why the Senate needs to pass the 3 percent withholding rule repeal, which would repeal the 3 percent withholding on our contractors' payments with Federal, State, and local governments.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Long Fights Crippling Regulation. 27 October 2011. “Today, U.S. Congressman Billy Long fought against crippling IRS regulations by voting in favor of H.R. 674, which would repeal the 3% withholding on contractor payments with the federal, state, and local governments. This provision, originally enacted in 2006 as part of a broad package of tax modifications, was intended to improve tax compliance. Unfortunately, this job-killing requirement would create costly new work for federal, state, and local governments and hold money hostage from government contractors. Long, a cosponsor of the bill, believes the requirement would hurt small businesses.” (long.house.gov)
  • Billy Long. LONG RESPONDS TO PRESIDENT OBAMA'S ADDRESS TO CONGRESS. 8 September 2011. “The best thing Washington can do to create jobs is something they always hate doing: using common sense. Businesses right now want to hire, but they are scared about the future. We need to help these businesses that are afraid of getting their taxes raised or a new regulation imposed every time a new speech comes out of the White House. We need to help these job creators by getting the government out of their way.” (long.house.gov)

  • Billy Long. Issue Position: Education. 1 January 2011. “I have always believed that local school officials and parents are much better suited to know what is best for their students, not the federal government. Consequently, my top priority for improving education is to remove burdens and let the state and local authorities decide what is best for our children. Currently there are many federal unfunded mandates on education which try to force a one-size fits all system on our children. The problems facing students in Springfield are different from the problems facing students in St. Louis, let alone California or New York. The federal government should empower local educators and parents with the tools needed to address problems as they see fit. Washington bureaucrats who have never set foot in the state of Missouri are not the answer.” (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long Issue Position: Energy and Environment. 1 January 2011. “I am a cosponsor of the American Energy Independence and Price Reduction Act, which directs the Secretary of the Interior to implement a competitive leasing program for exploration, development, and production of oil and natural gas resources off the Alaska Coast.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. HR 1230. 112th Congress. Offshore Leasing Act. Billy Long voted Yea on 05/05/2011. (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Long Attacks War on Consumers. 13 May 2011. “This week,Congressman Billy Long continued his fight for the American consumer by voting in favor of three energy bills to create thousands of American jobs, decrease oil prices, and increase America's energy independence. The three bills: the Putting Americans Back to Work Act, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act, and the Reversing President Obama's Offshore Moratorium Act, were all originally cosponsored by Long.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Letter to the Honorable Barack Obama, President of the United States. 18 February 2011. “In light of this week's announcement that Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC) has completed the initial well containment system, we again request an end to the de facto moratorium and a return to the timely and responsible issuance of offshore drilling permits.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Letter to the Honorable Barack Obama, President of the United States. 1 March 2011. “In light of continuing instability in the Middle East and in North Africa, we write today to urge your Administration's immediate action to ensure America's energy security by expediting the permitting process for safe offshore energy exploration and development without further delay.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Congressman Long on Energy: We Need An All-Of-The-Above Approach. 9 March 2011. “The U.S. can help insulate itself from these energy spikes and improve the economy by utilizing America's own energy resources, currently held hostage by the failed Obama administration energy policies. By reversing the administration's policies and ending the drilling moratorium, increasing onshore and offshore production, and by opening up resources around the country such as Alaska and the North Dakota's Bakken formation, jobs will be created as families across the country receive much needed relief at the pump.” (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Keep Washington Out of Rural America. 8 December 2011. “This bill does not give rural communities a right to pollute as they see fit," said Long. "Rather it is a one year of relief for farmers, ranchers, and rural businesses from potentially crippling regulations from the EPA. This bill is the kind of common-sense idea that the EPA hates and that alone means it is probably a good idea." (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Long Votes for Missouri Jobs. 6 October 2011. “Today, U.S. Congressman Billy Long fought against job killing Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulation in the House of Representatives by voting in favor of the EPA Regulatory Relief Act, or H.R. 2250, a bill that would ease restrictions on boiler and process heater use throughout the country. Congressman Long, a cosponsor of the bill, was proud to vote to protect Missouri jobs and businesses.” (long.house.gov)
  • Billy Long. Long: Time for the EPA to Use Common Sense. 21 September 2011. "Common sense is not very common in Washington D.C. This is just another overreaching regulation by the EPA that is meant to cripple the job creators in southwest Missouri. By clarifying the Superfund Law, we can keep the EPA out of our farms and back in DC where they belong." (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. HR 910. 112th Congress. Energy Tax Prevention Act. Billy Long voted Yea on 04/07/2011. (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Issue Position: Second Amendment. “Billy Long believes that government should not impede upon the Second Amendment. The Constitution protects our right to keep and bear arms, whether for defense or sport, and Billy will oppose any effort to weaken this right. He will vigorously fight any attempts to reinstate the assault weapons ban or any other legislation that would limit the right of law-abiding citizens to own guns.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Long Votes to Protect the 2nd Amendment. 16 November 2011. "The Second Amendment is a right that must be protected, even when somebody is traveling. A criminal isn't going to care that you crossed state lines and neither should the law." (votesmart.org)
  • National Rifle Association. Project Vote Smart: Interest Group Endorsements. 04/18/2012. National Rifle Association endorsed Billy Long in the 2010 general election. (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Congressman Long Votes to End Wasteful Government Spending. 16 March 2011. "The Democrats are using the budget as a political ploy instead of dealing with the issues facing our economy. The American people have run out of patience and it is time to stop wasting taxpayer dollars funding government takeovers like Obamacare." (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Issue Position: Health Care. 1 January 2011. “Our healthcare system is the envy of the world. We have the finest doctors, nurses, protocols, and facilities in the world; and that did not come about as a result of a government run system. Unfortunately, President Obama pushed a partisan health care bill through the Democratically controlled Congress using parliamentary tactics and big pay-offs like the "Louisiana Purchase." This Democratic bill was passed without a single Republican vote and increased federal spending by $2.6 trillion. It has given the federal government unprecedented control over the American health care system, which makes up about one sixth of our economy.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act. 19 January 2011. “The people have spoken, and they don't want Washington bureaucrats coming between them and their doctors. They would like to make their own decisions. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but that's exactly what the majority tried to do last year by using 10 years of taxes to pay for a 6-year program, increasing spending by $2.6 trillion. Now, that's not what I would call affordable when it's one-sixth of this Nation's economy. When I think of the 2,000-page bill, I think of a big block of cheese out there, pretty tempting looking. Well, the Americans I hear from, they don't want that cheese. They want out of the trap of government-run health care.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Video: Billy Long Interview - September 8, 2010. 8 September 2010. “I think the first thing we need to do is repeal and replace Obamacare.” (www.youtube.com)
  • Jennifer Moore. KSMU: Congressional Primary Candidate Profile: Billy Long, Republican. 18 July 2010. “Moore: What would you say are the top two or three issues you’re campaigning on? Long: Well, those have changed since I began campaigning due to the health care legislation…No one understands it. I’ve talked to administrators from all the hospitals around - they don’t know what it’s going to cost them, they don’t know what it’s going to entail. The economy is tied into the health care bill, because you have employers sitting around going, ‘We don’t know what we’re going to have to provide.’ So they’re afraid to hire people. The debt was my number one, but right now, I think repeal and replacing the health care bill is my number one (issue).” (ksmu.org)
  • Billy Long. HR 2. 112th Congress. Repealing the Health Care Bill. Billy Long voted Yea on 01/19/2011. (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Issue Position: Immigration. 1 January 2011. “I also support vigorous enforcement of our immigration laws by police whenever they encounter an illegal alien, especially if it occurs during the investigation of other criminal conduct. I have cosponsored the National Guard Border Enforcement Act, which directs the Secretary of Defense to deploy the National Guard for border control activities along the U.S.-Mexican border. If we cannot control the border, then we are not safe as a nation.” (votesmart.org)
  • Billy Long. Issue Position: Combating Illegal Immigration. 1 January 2011. “Our nation is built upon laws. People cannot be allowed to come into our nation illegally and become a drain on taxpayer money by taking advantage of our social safety net. Billy opposes liberals' amnesty efforts, which will do nothing to stem the tide of illegal immigration. Continuing to turn our back on illegal immigration is a national security issue that drains our economy and rewards people who knowingly violate our laws. We literally can no longer afford to ignore this problem.” (votesmart.org)

  • Billy Long. Long Votes Against Tax Increase. 13 December 2011. “Today Congressman Billy Long voted to create jobs, protect Social Security, and protect workers from a crippling tax increase by voting for H.R. 3630 the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011. The bill protects workers from a tax increase in January but unlike the Senate Democrats bill, refuses to raid the Social Security Trust Fund to pay for it.” (long.house.gov)
