Reason for Seeking Public Office:
It has been a deep honor and a privilege to serve you as a State Delegate for the past twelve years.
I am running to be your next State Senator because you deserve a State Senator who is going to represent you and your values, not the status quo politics of special interests or Annapolis insiders.
This is what I have done as your State Delegate. I have always represented you, even when the powers in Annapolis have disagreed.
Being your advocate is so important to me, that my door remains open all year round -- not only when the State Legislator is in session. I even use my personal funds to keep you informed and to let you know I am here.
I have stood with you in Annapolis from standing up for Marriage Equality and the Dream Act, to fighting to take the guns off our streets, so our children and families are safe. Just over the past 6 months, 1500 of you have signed my petition to close "Maryland's Gun Control Loophole" to strengthen the gun legislation that was passed this past year and reduce the occurrence of domestic violence and other heinous crimes.
Here at home, in Gaithersburg and Rockville we have come together when a neighbor or friend has been in need.
This is what I believe public service is all about and why I want to be your next State Senator to be a voice for you and your families, committed to making our community stronger.
We have made a lot of progress together over the past twelve years, but we can and need to do more.
Our schools may be number one on paper, but we know that there are still kids throughout our neighborhoods who are being taught in trailers.
Our economy may be recovering, but we know that there are many small businesses in Rockville and Gaithersburg that are still struggling to keep their doors open, and we know that there are still families fighting to pay the mortgage and college tuition.
And our crime rate may be going down, but we know that over 100,000 guns have been purchase in our state this year and that work still needs to be done to sleep well at night.
District 17 needs a State Senator who is going to go to work every day, working with you, to find solutions to these challenges. I am going to be that State Senator, I may not always do what the politicians think is best, but I will always do what is best for you.
