Project Vote Smart in Indonesia

6 August 2007

A number of times in the last 15 years, the US State Department has come to us and asked us to help emerging democracies around the world understand the principles and practice of democratic values and institutions, by meeting with and making presentations to non-government organizations (NGOs), journalists, government and educational leaders, and civic groups. We have been asked to send Project Vote Smart representatives to Romania, Cambodia, Mongolia, and a number of African nations, and have done so when we could. This summer, one of the Project's founding board members, Dr. Kyle Dell, political science professor at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, is taking Project Vote Smart to Indonesia. He will meet and speak to educators, journalists, students, and NGOs on a ten-day trip to Jakarta, Medan, and other places in Indonesia. Dr. Dell will share his experiences on the Voter's Speakeasy as his trip progresses. Dr. Dell is a former Project Vote Smart staff member, was director of the National Political Awareness Test in 1995-1996, and presided over the expansion of the NPAT to cover state legislative candidates.
